Handbags and Shoes

The first thing I've noticed as I begin my vintage journey is a sudden desire for handbags and shoes and how they should match.

This is a very new thing for me. I've only ever owned one bag at a time and viewed it as a functional object, not as part of my style. I certainly never worried about whether it went with my shoes!

Suddenly, I can't get enough of them. I've bought around eight pairs of shoes in the last two months (all second hand, I don't have the budget of an Imelda Marcos!).

Then I found the bag in the picture above - it doesn't perfectly go with the shoes but it'll do for now.

I follow Original Vintage Queen on Instagram and I noticed she usually has a scarf attached to her bag so I've blatantly copied this - I think it looks cute!

Next thing on the list was a black bag, everyone's essential. So, off I went to our local town to rummage through the charity shops. I remember seeing the exact thing I wanted in such places on many occasions. However, that must have been many years ago because all the bags in all the shops were too recent for my liking - I had a very specific bag in mind.

The walk to the final thrift store takes me past our local antique shop and I happened to notice a trunk outside while my husband was admiring a rocking chair (it's his age). The trunk was full of handbags - it's as if fate had taken a hand in my shopping trip! (I'm sure fate has more important things to deal with but let's just go with this, ok?).

I saw the perfect bag immediately and held it high in the air in triumph (I'm making this shopping trip sound far more exciting than it was). My husband was still rummaging and pulled out a second bag which was also perfect as a lot of the clothes I've got seem to be either brown or beige (I don't know why).

As if that wasn't good enough, all bags were £5 each! Who doesn't love a bargain?!

I've popped a picture below; I've no idea if they're genuine vintage (the shopkeeper told me they belonged to his dead mother-in-law) but I think they look great.

Successful accessory shopping!

Too Old for Vintage?

Welcome to my new blog which focuses on my love of all things vintage and vintage style!

I'm just building up my wardrobe with a mix of items from 1940's to 1970's and would love any advice or tips you can give me.

Not everything is true vintage, at the moment I'm going for different looks and trying to work out what suits me. I'm also learning how to best do my make-up.

My main concerns are;

  • Will I look like I'm in ridiculous fancy dress?
  • Am I too old to be dressing like this?

What do you think?
